Upstream, Downstream: A Community Oral History of the Beech Fork Watershed is an ongoing project that aims share the history of our region according to the people who call it home. Our community is full of natural storytellers, and this is a chance to bring our stories together – so that we may all enjoy them and leave a valuable record for future generations.

Contact New Pioneers to schedule an oral history interview with one of our trained project volunteers, or to recommend someone as an interviewee. The interview discussions are laid-back, illuminating, and fun.

The Upstream, Downstream project is supported by a grant from the Kentucky Oral History Commission, and is sponsored by the Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Loretto Community, and the Washington County Public Library.

Recorded interviews will be gathered and cataloged through December 2022, followed by a series of community listening events. In the meantime, please enjoy these story segments:
