Lebanon Elementary Visit!

New Pioneers had a wonderful time visiting Lebanon Elementary School's Kindergarten classrooms this November to kickstart their new unit: See How Plants Grow! This plant-inspired visit also served as a unique enrichment opportunity before the start of Thanksgiving Break.

During this visit, 45 students participated in four rotations of Flower Power stations, led by New Pioneers' staff and Lebanon Elementary teachers! In one station, students built terrariums to grow their own ryegrass plants at home. This activity helped students visualize and learn about soil layers and composition, as well as what a plant needs to grow!

Next, students learned about the parts of a flower by singing and dancing to Flower, Stem, Leaves, and Roots, to the tune of Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Then they completed a sunflower puzzle, naming each part of the flower as they built it!

Students also participated in our Seed Dispersal Dances, exploring the dispersal methods of dandelion, burr, maple tree, and wisteria seeds. Finally, students read Moving Words About a Flower by K.C. Hayes, and sequenced the life cycle of a dandelion plant.

New Pioneers is truly grateful to Lebanon Elementary School for inviting us to host this joyful visit! Thank you to all the teachers and staff who made it possible.
