Homeschool Hangout with the NCPL!

New Pioneers had the opportunity to join the Nelson County Public Library for their Homeschool Hangout this October!

To start this program, New Pioneers read and acted out Monarch and Milkweed by Helen Frost, exploring the life cycle and migration journey of Monarch Butterflies. Next, students viewed and ordered Monarch life cycle models and played an interactive game outside to model their journey to Mexico. In this game, students represented migrating butterflies, and it was their job to stop by milkweed plants for nectar and trees for protection while being presented with sunlight, rain, or daytime cards.

This program was continued with a fun butterfly craft to review their life cycle. Students were also given time to freely play and interact with a variety of games, puzzles, and crafts.

Huge thanks to the NCPL for partnering with us on this wonderful program, and to all the homeschool families who attended!
