New Pioneers was delighted to host another Moving Forward Forum this October: Composting 101! Moving Forward Forums offer a unique, community-driven, opportunity for attendees to discuss pressing environmental issues, sustainable living, and solutions. These forums are led by a variety of local enthusiasts and experts who are dedicated to ensuring a healthy future for all generations!
This October, New Pioneers had the honor of working alongside two local compost experts - Cole Alexander and Eve Spencer!
Cole Alexander
Cole is currently part of the grounds team at Nazareth, leading on-site composting, and is enrolled in the Regenerative Agriculture Academy. Cole has an extensive background with all things soil, coining the term, “Soil Mystic” due to his background stewarding Bernheim’s Edible Garden, completing the Foundation Series in the Soil Food Web School, and so much more!
Eve Spencer
Eve Spencer is an artist, a writer, and a librarian. She has been growing some of her own vegetables, herbs, and fruits since childhood. Her current organic garden is an intricate part of her life, providing food, beauty, and peace and connecting her to the larger ecosystem.
These compost enthusiasts did a wonderful job sharing their experiences, tips, and the many methods of composting with our audience. Together, this forum helped equip our community with the knowledge to reduce personal food waste and turn it into healthy, thriving compost! Check out some tips below:
