Stream Sampler Training!

New Pioneers was delighted to "get our feet wet" at our Stream Sampler Training this May, in collaboration with The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and the Kentucky Watershed Watch! This opportunity certified 10 new community members to become stream samplers for Kentucky Waterways, assisting the Division of Water in collecting and analyzing the health of our streams.

During this unique opportunity, an experienced stream sampler guided attendees through collecting water samples and testing chemical properties like Dissolved Oxygen levels, pH balance, and E. coli bacteria. Attendees were also trained to use the Kentucky Watershed Watch data portal, ensuring stream observations are accurately recorded and can be used accordingly!

New Pioneers is immensely grateful for our new certified stream samplers, our facilitators, Jerry Weisenfluh and Shelby Jett, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, and the Kentucky Watershed Watch for making this training such a success. We thank you all!
